What does deferred admission at MIT mean?

What does deferred admission at MIT mean?

We make decisions as a group in committees, so no single person in our office will know why an individual applicant was deferred. We know that the ambiguity is difficult and frustrating, but if you were deferred it means that you were and still are considered a competitive applicant.

How many MIT early applicants get deferred?

It only takes a quick glance at the sobering numbers to assess the reality of the situation: Of the 15,036 early applicants to the MIT Class of 2025, just 4.8\% were offered admission while 10,656 individuals were deferred to Regular Action.

Is there a difference between waitlisted and deferred?

Being waitlisted is unlike being deferred; the college has finished reviewing your file and made a decision to put you on a waiting list for admission. The admissions committee may or may not admit students from the waitlist. And unlike a deferral situation, new information does not usually change a waitlist decision.
