The 26-inch wheels on most mountain bikes are not compatible with road bike frames. Mountain bike rims are much wider to accommodate the wider tires of mountain bikes, so most road bikes’ narrow frames won’t work with wide mountain bike tires or wheels, but some frame designs may be compatible.

Can you put 27.5 wheels on a 700c?

Can you use a MTB groupset on a road bike?

Unfortunately, MTB cranks aren’t compatible with most road bike bottom brackets. The only exception would be a square taper bottom bracket. When you combine an MTB axle with a road bottom bracket, you’re left with two side gaps between the bottom bracket’s cups and the cranks. The result is an unstable crankset.

Can MTB use 700C wheels?

You can use 700c wheels on most standard MTBs provided they’re disc brake and provided you only use narrow tyres. (The overall wheel diameter of a 700c wheel with a 23mm slick tyre on is only slightly bigger than a 26″ wheel with a 2.2 tyre on). There are of course 29er MTBs, which are designed to use 700c wheels.
