Is PLA safe for coffee?

In it’s pure form, PLA is actually considered a food safe material and it’s biodegradable! This same type of plastic is used for eco-friendly plastic utensils, cups, and plates. All of that said, PLA plastic filament for 3D printing is still not technically considered food safe.

Is it safe to drink out of a PLA 3D printed cup?

Both filaments have different melting points, that of ABS being much higher than that of PLA. To melt the ABS you have to heat the plastic to the point where the PLA starts to degrade. Simply put, PLA and ABS should not be mixed into a filament.

If you print from PLA and you are going to change it for ABS, won’t serious problems with it. After the change of material you have to change the temperature to 230°C and extrude the end of PLA, which after a short time will be replaced with ABS.
