What is drilling and workover?
1. n. [Drilling] The repair or stimulation of an existing production well for the purpose of restoring, prolonging or enhancing the production of hydrocarbons.
What are the workover operations in oil and gas?
Operations may include squeeze cementing, setting plugs (cement or mechanical), retrieving production equipment, and perhaps cutting and pulling casing. Workover costs vary depending on well conditions and regulatory requirements.
What is the sequence of drilling operation?
The sequence of drilling operations involves drilling large diameter holes first and running large diameter conductors then drilling progressively smaller hole sizes, installing smaller and stronger casings and liners as downhole pressures increase.
What is the difference between drilling rig and workover rig?
Similar to a drilling rig, a workover rig is smaller and requires no mud pumping or pressure-control systems. Instead of removing the tubing from the well, which is how workover rigs fix the problem, coiled tubing is inserted into the tubing against the pressure of the well and during production.
What should there be prior to any well intervention or workover operations?
Before any workover, the well must first be killed. The workover begins by killing the well then removing the wellhead and possibly the flow line, then installing a B.O.P commonly known as a blowout preventer, then lifting the tubing hanger from the casing head, thus beginning to pull the completion out of the well.
What are workover rigs used for?
A – As defined in section 2449(c)(62), a workover rig is a mobile self-propelled rig used to perform one or more remedial operations, such as deepening, plugging back, pulling and resetting liners, on a producing oil or gas well to try to restore or increase the well’s production.
What is snubbing oil and gas?
Snubbing is a type of heavy well intervention performed on oil and gas wells. It involves running the BHA on a pipe string using a hydraulic workover rig. Unlike wireline or coiled tubing, the pipe is not spooled off a drum but made up and broken up while running in and pulling out, much like conventional drill pipe.
What is well completion in oil and gas?
Well completion is the process of making a well ready for production (or injection) after drilling operations. After a well has been drilled, should the drilling fluids be removed, the well would eventually close in upon itself.
