What is quorum Linux?

What is quorum Linux?

The cluster configuration database, also called the quorum, tells the cluster which physical server(s) should be active at any given time. The quorum disk comprises a shared block device that allows concurrent read/write access by all nodes in a cluster.

What is quorum in AIX?

A quorum is a vote of the number of Volume Group Descriptor Areas and Volume Group Status Areas (VGDA/VGSA) that are active. A quorum ensures data integrity of the VGDA/VGSA areas in the event of a disk failure. Each physical disk in a volume group has at least one VGDA/VGSA.

What is difference between quorum and witness disk?

The cluster quorum is the majority of voting nodes in the active cluster membership plus a witness vote. A quorum witness can be a designated disk witness or a designated file share witness. No nodes have votes. Only a disk witness has a vote.

What is quorum and types of quorum?

Types of Quorum Modes

Quorum Mode Description
Node and File Share Majority • The nodes in the cluster and a witness file share have a vote • Quorum is maintained when more than half the votes are online
No Majority: Disk Only • Only the quorum-shared disk has a vote • Quorum is maintained when the shared disk is online

How is quorum defined?

A quorum is the minimum number of members of a deliberative assembly (a body that uses parliamentary procedure, such as a legislature) necessary to conduct the business of that group. In modern times a quorum might be defined as the minimum number of voters needed for a valid election.

What is a write quorum?

In case of replicated databases, a quorum-based replica control protocol can be used to ensure that no two copies of a data item are read or written by two transactions concurrently. Each operation then has to obtain a read quorum (Vr) or a write quorum (Vw) to read or write a data item, respectively.

Volume Groups ( VG s) are an AIX thing — they’re basically logical disks (comprised of one or more Physical Volumes ( PV s).

How do you convert normal VG to Big VG?

What are the pre-requisites?

  1. While converting a Normal VG to Big VG format, the VGDA gets expanded.
  2. So we need at least 1 free PP per PV in all the PV residing in the VG.
  3. Use the below command to view the current PVs in the VG and Total/Free PPs per PV.
  4. $ lsvg -p vg000.
  5. vg000:

How does a quorum work?

Quorum is designed to handle the scenario when there is a problem with communication between subsets of cluster nodes, so that multiple servers don’t try to simultaneously host a resource group and write to the same disk at the same time.
