In Hindu Religion Asthi Visarjan is really very important religious process. The meaning of Asthi is the left over bone or some collected ashes of dead people. After the last rites are performed the remains of the dead person are collected, these are mostly tied in a piece of cloth.

Why are last rites important in Hinduism?

Many Eastern religions do not bury their dead, instead, they cremate them. Most Hindus consider this to be the final sacrifice of a person. When we die, our physical body perishes but our soul lives on. The soul continues its journey of birth, death and rebirth, in perpetuity until final liberation.

Can Asthi be kept at home Hindu?

Since ashes cannot be kept at home, as per Hindu tradition, we are keeping them in the ”Asthi Kalash Bank” till the lockdown is over. The bank is also the custodian of those ashes that remain unclaimed. “In some cases, people do not return to claim the ashes.

Which day is Asthi visarjan?

The Asthis are collected either on the day of cremation or on the 3rd, 7th or 9th day and are immersed in flowing water before the 10th day. It is better to collect asthi on the 3rd day following cremation rites.
