Do we exist in higher dimensions?

Does our universe exist in more than just three dimensions? Probably not on large scales, according to new research published July 23 in the Journal of Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics. The study found that across vast distances in space, the universe likely operates in just the dimensions we experience on Earth.

Are there actually 11 dimensions?

Scientists do not believe there can exist more than 11 dimensions because conditions become unstable and particles naturally collapse back down into 10 or 11 dimensions. While strings can only vibrate in 10 dimensions, membranes can exist at 11 dimensions.

How do the other dimensions interact with each other?

The other dimensions are where the deeper possibilities come into play, and explaining their interaction with the others is where things get particularly tricky for physicists. According to string theory, the fifth and sixth dimensions are where the notion of possible worlds arises.

Do we live on a three-dimensional world?

Our world may live on a three-dimensional submanifold corresponding to a brane on which all known particles besides gravity would be restricted (a.k.a., brane theory). If the extra dimensions are compactified, then the extra six dimensions must be in the form of a Calabi–Yau manifold.

Why can we perceive only four dimensions of space?

The fact that we can perceive only four dimensions of space can be explained by one of two mechanisms: either the extra dimensions are compactified on a very small scale, or else our world may live on a 3-dimensional submanifold corresponding to a brane, on which all known particles besides gravity would be restricted (aka. brane theory).

How do cultures view social connection and interdependence?

Different cultures have different beliefs about how important social connection and interdependence are to our lives. In the West, we like to think of ourselves as relatively immune to sway of those around us while we each pursue our personal destiny.
