Don’t be tempted to buy or copy a personal statement, or share yours. All personal statements are checked for similarity – if your personal statement is flagged as similar to other applicants, it could affect your chances of being offered a place.

Can personal statements be copied?

There are programs available for applicants to check their own personal statements for plagiarism, but in general, if you have not used any other sources while writing it really should not be an issue.

Can you send the same personal statement to more than one school?

You shouldn’t submit the same personal statement to multiple different schools, just changing the school and program names. Even though the application committee won’t know this for sure, they’ll get a sense that the whole statement is just a little too generic.
