What is LFL fire?

What is LFL fire?

LFL refers to Lower Flammable Limit. It is the lower end of the concentration range of a flammable gas, normally expressed in percentage by volume in air, which can ignite with air at normal temperature and pressure. Below LFL, the vapour/air mixture will not ignite.

What is upper flammable limit UFL?

The highest concentration of a vapor or gas (the highest percentage of the substance in air) that will produce a flash of fire when an ignition source (heat, arc, or flame) is present. See also Lower Flammable Limit. At concentrations higher than the UFL, the mixture is too rich to burn.

What is LFL and LEL?

marine. The concentration of a hydrocarbon gas in air below which there is insufficient amount of hydrocarbon to support and propagate combustion. Sometimes referred to as lower explosive limit (LEL).

What LFL means?

Like for like (LFL) growth is a measure of growth in sales, adjusted for new or divested businesses. This is a widely used indicator of retailers’ current trading performance.

What is \%LFL?

Lower flammability limit (LFL) refers to the lower limit of the gaseous or vaporized fuel, combustible material or dust’s concentration in the air, at a fixed temperature and pressure, which can lead to flame propagation, detonation or an explosion.

Why does a flammable substance not catch fire below its LFL and above its UFL?

If the fuel-air concentration is below the LEL, there is not enough fuel in the air to sustain a fire or an explosion—it is too lean. If the fuel-air concentration is above the UEL, there is not enough oxygen to sustain a fire or an explosion because there is too much fuel—it is too rich.

What is flammable or explosive limits?

What are flammable or explosive limits? A material’s flammable or explosive limits also relate to its fire and explosion hazards. These limits give the range between the lowest and highest concentrations of vapour in air that will burn or explode.

What is the flammable range of the flammable gases with air?

The limits indicated are for gas and air at 20oC and atmospheric pressure….Note!

Fuel Gas “Lower Explosive or Flammable Limit” (LEL/LFL) (\% by volume of air) “Upper Explosive or Flammable Limit” (UEL/UFL) (\% by volume of air)
Carbon oxysulfide 12 29
Chlorobenzene 1.3 9.6
Chloroethane 3.8 15.4
Cyanogen 6.0 42.6

What is the flammability range of propane?

approximately 2 – 10 percent
Liquid propane is stored in tanks and vaporizes when it is released from the tank because propane vaporizes at any temperature above -44°F. The flammability range of propane is approximately 2 – 10 percent propane in air.

Is an upper explosive limit the same as LFL?

Above the upper flammable limit (UFL) the mixture of substance and air is too rich in fuel (deficient in oxygen) to burn. This is sometimes called the upper explosive limit (UEL). Below the lower flammable limit (LFL) the mixture of substance and air lacks sufficient fuel (substance) to burn.

What is LFL meter?

Fixed point flammable gas detectors measure concentrations in percent of the Lower Explosive or Flammable Level (\%LFL). Open path devices measure in LFL over distance in meters (LFL. m) e.g. A 5 meter gas cloud with a concentration of 50\% LFL will read 2.5 LFL.
