Do planets show phases like the Moon?

Like the Moon, planets can also have phases. This demonstrates the view of Mercury, Venus, and Earth when viewed from any of these three planets. Planets in inferior orbits undergo complete phase changes like the Moon when viewed from a planet with a superior orbit.

Why don’t we see the phases of the moon?

During the lunar month, the Moon goes through all its phases. It does not show which side of the Moon is lit by the Sun. The side lit by the Sun is always the side that is pointed toward the Sun, as seen in the diagram below on the left. We only see the Moon because sunlight reflects back to us from its surface.
