Why can we not live on the Moon as we live on the earth?

Why can we not live on the Moon as we live on the earth?

The Moon’s environment is not nearly as easy to live in as Earth’s. If we were to live on the Moon, one thing we would have to contend with is toxic lunar dust. Lunar dust isn’t the only issue. Because of the Moon’s sparse atmosphere, there is no protection from meteorites or radiation.

Why isn’t there a webcam on the Moon?

Neither NASA nor any other space agency has bothered to put a glorified webcam on the Moon because there are far better ways to use very limited resources. There’s really not much to be gained from such a thing.

Can we see the backside of the Moon directly from Earth?

As the Earth is much larger than the Moon, the Moon’s rotation is slowed down until it reaches a balance point. As this NASA animation shows (right), this means that the same portion of the Moon always faces towards the Earth, and we can never see the far side.

Are there still cameras on the Moon?

Cutting down on weight and saving space is the reason there are still 12 cameras on the moon. After completing their missions and taking on average 1500 pictures each, astronauts were instructed to remove the film and jettison the camera bodies on the surface of the moon to make room for precious moon rocks.

Can you see the flag on the Moon?

Images taken by a Nasa spacecraft show that the American flags planted in the Moon’s soil by Apollo astronauts are mostly still standing. The photos from Lunar Reconaissance Orbiter (LRO) show the flags are still casting shadows – except the one planted during the Apollo 11 mission.

Can astronauts see stars on the Moon?

Apollo astronauts reported they could see the brighter stars if they stood in the shadow of the Lunar Module, and also they saw stars while orbiting the far side of the Moon. Just like stargazers on Earth need dark skies to see stars, so too when you’re in space.

Why dark side of the moon is not visible?

First, the dark side isn’t really any darker than the near side. Like Earth, it gets plenty of sunlight. We don’t see the far side because “the moon is tidally locked to the Earth,” said John Keller, deputy project scientist for NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter project. Earth’s gravitational pull holds it in place.

How did they take photos on the moon?

Then Lunar Orbiters methodically mapped much of the Moon, examining the candidate sites for manned landings. These spacecraft carried fully automated film processing laboratories. After processing, the film was scanned for radio transmission of the pictures back to Earth.
