What happens if you tap in twice at the same station?

If you tap in at a station, you can’t pass your oyster card back to your mate behind, the system won’t accept two consecutive tap ins. However, it WILL accept them if the two are broken up by a tap out. So to discourage that, there’s a hefty fee involved with doing so.

Fast forward to 2019 and payments with contactless bank cards or mobile phones now make up 60\% of all Tube and rail pay-as-you-go journeys in London. This is the equivalent of around 21 million journeys a week. The remaining 40\% still use Oyster.

What happens if you forget to tap oyster?

Can you top up an Oyster card with any amount?

You can top it up by any amount in cash at a ticket machine (although it won’t give change on London Underground machines, so you need the correct amount of cash).
