While the whereabouts of many ships sunk during World War II have been discovered, Oklahoma’s final resting place remains a mystery. What is known is that she was approximately 500 to 700 miles northeast of Oahu when the storm threatened to sink the tugs that were towing her.

Can you visit the USS Oklahoma?

The USS Oklahoma Memorial and USS Utah Memorial are both located on Ford Island. Visitors can access the USS Oklahoma Memorial via a shuttle from the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center. However, the USS Utah Memorial is not available to the public via shuttle.

Only 35 men were identified out of the 429 killed. Nearly 400 unidentified remains were buried as Unknowns in 46 plots at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, known as the Punchbowl, in Honolulu.
