If you look at an open circuit as a circuit with an infinite resistance, you can apply KVL without ambiguity.

Is KVL applicable for AC circuit?

Yes. Kirchoff laws are applicable in AC and DC.

Is KCL and KVL applied to open circuits?

To apply KVL and KCL, a circuit must be closed. If it is not closed, current will not flow through the circuit and hence there would be no point in applying these laws!

Why KVL is used?

Kirchhoff’s current law and Kirchhoff’s voltage law are the basis for analysis of lumped parameter circuits. KVL depends upon the concept of a loop. A loop is any closed path through the circuit which encounters no node more than once.

Is Kvl valid for AC voltages?

Strictly speaking, Kirchoff’s circuit laws are not valid in AC circuits. However they are often good enough for engineering work. That in turn means that the change in current causes a change in the magnetic field, which is manifested within the electric potential.

Can we apply Kirchhoff’s law to both AC and DC?

Kirchhoff’s laws are applicable for DC as well as AC circuits. They can be accurately used for DC circuits and low-frequency AC circuits.

Why KVL is conservation of energy?

This is because a circuit loop is a closed conducting path so no energy is lost. In other words the algebraic sum of ALL the potential differences around the loop must be equal to zero as: ΣV = 0. Hence any voltage drops around the loop must be equal to any voltage sources met along the way.
