Does everyone get a Princeton alumni interview?

The interviews are 30-45 minute informal conversations, where you can discuss the things that are important to you and also ask questions to someone who attended Princeton. We cannot guarantee that every applicant will receive an interview. This will depend on the availability of alumni in your area.

Does everyone get a Cornell alumni interview?

Only a few schools within Cornell University require an interview and these make it very clear in their applications. However, about 60\% of applicants are invited to have an optional alumni interview. This is not required but can be helpful, as Mikaela says, as ‘frosting’.

Do Princeton interviews mean anything?

Interviews are not a required part of the MIT application. While we try to offer as many interviews as we can, we have limited availability and may not able to offer interviews to all applicants. If your interview is waived, it will not put you at a disadvantage in the admissions process.

In case of Cornell University, the interview will be a skype one and could be taken by an alumni or someone from the admission committee. The interview is pretty friendly and usually covers your work, personal life, motivations for applying to the course and current affairs.

Alumni interviews matter for two reasons. First, while colleges do not penalize an applicant in any way for declining this optional interview, a positive interview could improve a prospective student’s likelihood of acceptance. Second, you can learn about what life at the college you are interested in is really like.
