I started uni in 2008 and can still remember my dad getting very upset when he heard about the banks collapsing. The economy is recovering slowly but things like research funding will naturally suffer.

How hard is it to get into biology in the US?

Those are hot spots for biology but the the rest of the U.S. not so much. It’d be harder unless you went to a prestigious school that is well ranked in biology/Biochem. In general biotech research and medical research (good for biochem majors) are easier to find.
