What is the difference between issue price and MSP?

What is a Mandi?

Mandi in Hindi language means market place. Traditionally, such market places were for food and agri-commodities. Thus the word mandi assumes the contours of a catch-all market place where anything is bought and sold. In a still predominantly rural India, mandis form part of the life-line infrastructure for the people.

How does mandi system work?

APMCs are committees regulated by states through their adoption of an Agriculture Produce Marketing Regulation (APMR) Act. Now, this is where the mandi system comes in. Unit 2020, the first sale of agriculture produce could occur only at the market yards (mandis) of APMCs.

How many commodities are in MSP?

As of now, CACP recommends MSPs of 23 commodities, which comprise 7 cereals (paddy, wheat, maize, sorghum, pearl millet, barley and ragi), 5 pulses (gram, tur, moong, urad, lentil), 7 oilseeds (groundnut, rapeseed-mustard, soyabean, seasmum, sunflower, safflower, nigerseed), and 4 commercial crops (copra, sugarcane.

Is MSP compulsory?
