They are mentioned as rebirth as Arjuna and Krishna and the amsa or portion of Vishnu. In Bhagavatham there is mention of an Asura with thousand or sahasra kavacha or armor who had to be fought for 1000 years and 1000 years of prayers to destroy one armor. Nara and Narayana did that and killed the Asura.
