Do you hold an Overseas Citizen of India?

Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) is a form of permanent residency available to people of Indian origin and their spouses which allows them to live and work in India indefinitely. Despite the name, OCI status is not citizenship and does not grant the right to vote in Indian elections or hold public office.

Do I need to renew OCI card after 50?

For an applicant who is 50 years of age or older, OCI documents must be re-issued once after the issuance of a new passport. If the OCI card is issued for the first time after the age of 50 years, then there is no need for re-issuance of OCI.

What is the difference between OCI and PIO?

A PIO card allows visa-free travel from and to India to the person holding a valid card. A PIO card is considered valid only if you hold a valid passport. On the contrary, an OCI card allows lifetime visa-free traveling to and from India.

Can Indian citizens travel to India from USA?

Yes. Travel to India for tourism and other short-term purposes resumed fully on November 15 for individuals holding tourist or e-tourist visas issued on or after October 6, 2021.

Can I travel to India while my OCI under process?

What documents do I need to upload for OCI renewal?

These could be:

  1. Copy of the Indian Passport; or.
  2. Copy of the Domicile Certificate issued by the Competent Authority; or.
  3. Copy of Nativity Certificate from the Competent Authority; or.
  4. OCI Card/ PIO card of parents/ spouse along with the documents upon which the OCI/ PIO card was issued; or.
