When it comes to subwoofers, the answer’s yes; size matters greatly. So let me just start of saying to those of you with small subs, “that’s no subwoofer, THIS is a subwoofer”. The simple fact is surface area is a big deal for moving air and achieving low frequencies.

Do bigger subwoofers hit harder?

Correct, when a sub “hits hard” we’re talking about hitting the correct peak output. Unpowered or sized subs will compress these transients. Larger subs will not have this issue. It’s still louder at its peak however even though they are “level matched” when playing quieter.

Do big speakers sound better than small speakers?

They include a subwoofer, which small speakers lack. The included subwoofer allows larger speakers to have a better frequency response than smaller speakers. Frequency response is the range of bass, mids, and treble that a speaker can produce without distortion. With large speakers, there are less strained sounds.
