How does a KNX system work?

How does a KNX system work?

KNX is a wired system. The KNX bus is routed in parallel to the electrical power supply to all devices and systems on the network. All of the various building technology elements are then connected to one another via the main KNX bus line in accordance with the KNX standard for building automation.

What is KNX in IOT?

KNX is a communication protocol developed for — and widely used in —home and building automation. It is a standardized (EN 50090, ISO/IEC 14543), OSI-based network communications protocol that is administered by the KNX Association. Powerline networking (inherited from EIB and EHS– similar to that used by X10)

What is KNX installation?

The KNX bus line is the main central nervous system for all automatons. It is a green cable which is installed in addition to the conventional mains supply during a new build or renovation project. The cable system is then managed by such things as sensors, detectors, parameters, etc.

Is KNX slow?

One of the most used figures in this debate is the relatively slow baud rate that KNX employs (9600bps) and the fact that newer systems can communicate at many thousands of times this rate.

Is KNX open?

KNX is an open standard (see EN 50090, ISO/IEC 14543) for commercial and domestic building automation. KNX evolved from three earlier standards; the European Home Systems Protocol (EHS), BatiBUS, and the European Installation Bus (EIB or Instabus).

What is KNX cable?

The KNX/EIB cable is a European installation fieldbus BUS cable suitable for use in KNX systems, formerly known as EIB, by KONNEX™. It forms part of ‘green’ building control systems and intelligent building technology, improving comfort levels whilst reducing carbon footprint and running costs.

Who started KNX?

Gira
Did you know that the KNX system was founded by Gira, in partnership with other electronics manufacturers? This year, the global Smart Home standard turns 30 – and still draws new manufacturers.

What is KNX cable used for?

KNX systems, formerly known as EIB, allow the operation and control of heating, lighting and air condition among others to be aligned with external climate conditions or adjusted by an interface to pre-set levels. When you are looking to buy KNX cable, look for the KNX logo.

What is KNX in automation?

KNX is an open standard (see EN 50090, ISO/IEC 14543) for commercial and domestic building automation. KNX devices can manage lighting, blinds and shutters, HVAC, security systems, energy management, audio video, white goods, displays, remote control, etc.
