In British Columbia (BC) public health insurance is called the Medical Services Plan – or MSP. BC is the only province left in Canada which requires residents to pay a monthly premium for provincial healthcare coverage. The MSP premiums are complex and expensive for businesses and the government to administer.

Does MSP cover other provinces?

MSP does not provide any coverage for treatment provided by a health care practitioner outside the province (e.g. physician assistants, nurse practitioners, chiropractors or physical therapists).

How is MSP paid in BC?

You can pay your MSP invoice in person at a Service BC Centre. To make a payment you must have your MSP account number (e.g. X36012345678) from your invoice. Payments are accepted by cash, debit, credit card, cheque, bank draft or money order made payable to the Minister of Finance.
