Trusting necessarily involves opening ourselves up to being vulnerable and possibly tricked. However, it is better to trust than to be cynical. While we would not want to trust someone against our better judgement, trusting is necessary for society to work well and for people to feel safe and secure in their community.

The word “naive”, while not inherently bad, does tend to carry negative connotations with it, because IME, most of the times it is used, it’s intended as an insult. It’s similar to the word “ignorant” in that regard.
