Kubuntu is the KDE version of Ubuntu. The KDE Plasma desktop environment is known for its point-and-click configuration options. Plasma is modern and sleek-looking. Considering KDE has improved a lot over the years and is the most lightweight desktop environment while updating this article, it should perform good.

If you prefer a more traditional menu-style system, Kubuntu would be better although you are not limited to using it that way. Lubuntu is a nice alternative. It is based on the LXDE environment which aims to be lightweight.

What is the difference between Ubuntu and KDE?

The GNOME apps that come with Ubuntu are generally nicer than the KDE counterparts in my opinion but there are some outstanding ones for KDE such as KDENLive and Clementine. The KDE desktop within Kubuntu is also more customisable than Ubuntu’s Unity desktop. The Unity desktop is probably more intuitive and has some great keyboard shortcuts.
