What is a factored load?

A factored load is a load multiplied by a certain factor designated by codes of practice to drermine the strength of a structural members such as reinforced concrete. Unfactored load is a service load to determine the working stress of a structural concrete, steel, or wood member.

What is the difference between working load and factored load?

Factored load refers to the demand as per LRFD. Design load is synonymous with demand and it could be factored or un-factored. When it’s factored then yes – design load=factored load. When it’s not then design load is not same as factored load.

Why factor of safety is greater for concrete than steel?

∴ The factor of safety for steel as compared to concrete is lower as concrete is brittle material and relatively less reliable than steel.

Why we use factored load?

The analysis software utilizes factored loads to determine the loads on structural members and connections. The factored load/design strength checks that result in the highest overall utilization for the anchorage will control the anchorage design.
