Does constant thrust mean constant acceleration?

Does constant thrust mean constant acceleration?

Constant-thrust and constant-acceleration trajectories involve the spacecraft firing its engine in a prolonged constant burn. If, instead of constant thrust, the vehicle has constant acceleration, the engine thrust must decrease during the trajectory.

Is constant acceleration possible?

Any object is moving under the application of a constant force will enjoy a constant acceleration. All free-falling objects under the force of gravity move with a constant acceleration, i.e. 9.8 m/(sec^2). It means the velocity of a freely falling body increases by 9.8m/sec after every one second.

Does constant thrust mean constant velocity?

Yes! In physics, constant velocity occurs when there is no net force acting on the object causing it to accelerate. At a constant altitude, when the force of thrust equals the opposing force of drag, then the airplane will experience uniform motion in one direction.

Does thrust work in space?

We call this push, the thrust of the rocket, i.e. the force exerted on the rocket. This reduces the thrust. However, in space since there is no atmosphere, the exhaust gases can exit much easier and faster, thus increasing the thrust. Therefore, the rocket engine actually works better in space than here on Earth.

What happens when there is too much thrust?

For an aircraft, the horizontal net external force Fh is the excess thrust Fex. Therefore, the acceleration of an aircraft is equal to the excess thrust divided by the mass of the aircraft. Airplanes with high excess thrust, like fighter planes, can accelerate faster than aircraft with low excess thrust.

How is constant acceleration achieved?

If the velocity of the particle changes at a constant rate, then this rate is called the constant acceleration. For example, if the velocity of a particle moving in a straight line changes uniformly (at a constant rate of change) from 2 m/s to 5 m/s over one second, then its constant acceleration is 3 m/s2.
