How do I set my Joule manually?

You can set a temperature manually by connecting to Joule, then tapping the orange “Start Joule” button at the bottom of the app.

Does Joule need to be submerged?

Similar to all immersion circulators the Joule has a minimum water level, which requires the water in the bath to be above it, and a maximum water level, which requires the water to be below it.

How do I connect my joules to my WiFi?

Launch the Joule app and proceed to the main menu (tap the three horizontal lines in the upper left). Tap Settings > My Joules > [Joule name] > Disconnect Joule from WiFi [access point name]. Tap Okay to disconnect. Tap Connect Joule to WiFi and choose your new WiFi access point.

Do I need a special container for sous vide?

A large container If you’re using an immersion circulator like Nomiku, you’ll need a large, hot water-safe container for you water bath. Most standard stock pots will work fine, but not only does that rob you of a stock pot during those 3-day-long sous vides, but you’ll eventually grow out of it.

No, but Joule is water resistant and is the only sous vide circulator completely sealed against short-term, accidental water intrusion. Because of Joule’s unique design, it will continue to work after an accidental dunk in water.

How much water is a Joule?

In a well-insulated, covered container, Joule can heat up to 10 gallons (40 liters) of water. In a covered pot, it can heat about 5 gallons (20 liters). When you’re cooking without a cover, we generally recommend limiting water volume to about 2.5 gallons (10 liters).
