The style in writing can be defined as the way a writer writes. It is the technique that an individual author uses in his writing. It varies from author to author, and depends upon one’s syntax, word choice, and tone. It can also be described as a “voice” that readers listen to when they read the work of a writer.

There are some writers who can put their egos aside and mercilessly edit their own work. They cut, add, or change entire paragraphs or arguments. But most writers won’t.

Both editors and authors work with the written word and must have an exceptional mastery of the language they work in, including vocabulary and grammar. While writers create texts, however, editors polish them. Some editors start their careers as writers.

To analyze a piece, one must notice the ways that the author uses words: i.e. word choice, sentence structure, figurative language, sentence arrangement, mood, imagery, etc. When analyzing craft/style, look at a piece of writing from the overall structure of the text to the small details and word choices.
Why do authors revise their work?
When we revise our writing, we take the opportunity to step back and re-envision it. We think about the goals of the paper and whether we have accomplished these goals. And, we make certain that errors of grammar and style do not detract from our work or make it look as though the paper was prepared hastily.
Why do writers edit their work?
And as a poet who has edited poems during live readings before, I don’t think the writing process is ever completely over. That said, I often advise writers to focus on finishing their first draft before putting in too much time on the revision or editing process. The reason for this is simple: Momentum.
