The MBE is awarded to individuals who have provided long-term, significant service to the community, or who have been responsible for significant community impact. What does an MBE entitle you to? Those selected for the honour are invited to an investiture, a special ceremony in which an honour is given by a member of the Royal Family. However, recipients can start using their new title or letters after their name as soon as the award is announced.

Can you nominate yourself for an MBE?
You can’t nominate yourself for an MBE, you can only be nominated for an MBE by someone else; for example a friend, family member or colleague who would like to see your achievements formally recognised with a Queen’s honour. Is an MBE better than an OBE?
Like a CBE, an OBE is an order of the British Empire award. It is the second highest ranking Order of the British Empire award, behind CBE but ahead of MBE. It stands for Officer of the Order of the British Empire (as opposed to Commander for a CBE and Member for an MBE).
