Is it necessary to implement Serializable in Hibernate?
Is it necessary to implement Serializable in Hibernate?
You need your entities to be Serializable if you need to transfer them over-the-wire (serialize them to some other representation), store them in http session (which is in turn serialized to hard disk by the servlet container), etc. Just for the sake of persistence, Serializable is not needed, at least with Hibernate.
Does Hibernate use serialization?
Hibernate/JPA does not use Serialization as part of the normal CRUD mechanism. But if you want to be able to transfer JPA Entities between JVMs, then they must be Serializable, just like any other transferrable object.
Is Serializable necessary?
Serialization is usually used When the need arises to send your data over network or stored in files. By data I mean objects and not text. Now the problem is your Network infrastructure and your Hard disk are hardware components that understand bits and bytes but not JAVA objects.

What if parent class is not Serializable?
Case 2: If a superclass is not serializable, then subclass can still be serialized. Even though the superclass doesn’t implement a Serializable interface, we can serialize subclass objects if the subclass itself implements a Serializable interface.
Why hibernate entity is serialized?
If an entity instance is to be passed by value as a detached object (e.g., through a remote interface), the entity class must implement the Serializable interface. In practice, if our object is to leave the domain of the JVM, it’ll require serialization. Each entity class consists of persistent fields and properties.
