What is a heating kit?

What is a heating kit?

Heat kits, also known as radiant electric heat, are equipped with open coil heating elements as well as controls, options, and accessories that are designed to completely replace the existing heater kit in the original manufacturer A/C unit.

What are the two types of heat HVAC?

There are two main types of heat pumps air source and ground source. Air source is commonly used for space air heating whereas ground source is more commonly used for water heating. Air source works like an AC system but in reverse, instead of removing heat from a room, it adds it.

How much does it cost to replace heat strips?

What Size Heat Strips are Available?

Heat Strip BTUs Cost
10 kW 30,00 – 40,000 $80 – $140
15 kW 50,000 – 55,000 $125 – $225
20 kW 65,000 – 70,000 $165 – $270
25 kW 85,000 – 90,000 $210 – $300

Whats the difference between heat pump and heat strip?

A heat pump is usually more cost efficient, and can be supplemented with a heat strip kit in below freezing weather markets for an all electric home. Heat strip kits are generally the least efficient heating option, but the only other option for homes that do not have access to a gas fuel source.

At what temperature does auxiliary heat come on?

Auixiliary Heat will turn on automatically when heat can no longer efficiently transfer heat from the outside air to heat pump. This is when the outside is around 35-40 degrees and the indoor temperature is around three degrees cooler than the thermostat setting.

What is furnace coil?

During the winter, as your furnace uses gas or electricity to generate heat energy, the furnace coil acts as a heat exchanger, absorbing that heat so that the blower can distribute it through your air ducts.

What does a heat strip look like?

An electric heat strip looks like a series of coils. It attaches to the air handler on an air conditioning system and then heats the air coming out of the blower (with the AC in “fan only” mode). Essentially, it converts the air handler into a small-scale electric furnace.

Do all heat pumps have heat strips?

Every heat pump system includes a “heat strip” component. When your system fan blows air across them, these strips distribute that heat out into your home. Heat strips are much less energy efficient than a heat pump. This is why heat strips are designed into these systems for auxiliary or emergency use.

Are heat strips expensive to run?

Heat strips are the emergency or auxiliary part of your heating system, designed to work when it is exceptionally cold, and they require more energy to operate than the normal operations of your system. When operating in the auxiliary/emergency heating mode, that cost goes up to around $1.30 per hour.
