What is your idea about social work?
Social work is a practice-based profession and an academic discipline that promotes social change and development, social cohesion, and the empowerment and liberation of people. Principles of social justice, human rights, collective responsibility and respect for diversities are central to social work.
Social Work aims to maximize the development of human potential and the fulfillment of human needs, through an equal commitment to: Working with and enabling people to achieve the best possible levels of personal and social well-being. Working to achieve social justice through social development and social change.
Motivations for choosing the social work profession include a desire to help others, a longing to fight for social change and human rights, an appreciation for the opportunities social work provides, and a chance to pass on lessons learned through experience.
What are you passionate about in social work?
Social work focuses heavily on interactions within the communities you work, and employers want to see that you’re passionate about community involvement, helping others, providing support to families and individuals and using your passion to stay motivated and achieve success.
One of the biggest advantages of social worker careers is the personal reward of seeing clients overcome seemingly insurmountable barriers and reach their goals. Job satisfaction comes from recalling many success stories, such as encouraging a bright teen mom to earn a GED and then go on to nursing school.
