Parikshita was a pious king who was born in the kuru dynasty. He was Abhimanyu’s posthumous son. As per the story, at the end of the Mahabharata war, Ashwatthama got enraged and used the Brahmastra to kill Parikshita who was in his Mother’s womb (Uttara). He did so because the entire Kaurava clan had vanquished and sought revenge.
