Aion was designed around a philosophy of large amounts of grinding with some quests. It was designed with the social market in mind hoping to grab groups of friends from other titles. It worked. Korean MMOs are grindy first because of technological limitations but eventually because of social activity.

Why do people find grinding fun?

Grinding is usually continously running massive amounts of a dungeon in order to get a rare drop you need, like white bags.

Why are grinding games addictive?

Part of the addictive nature of these games is that player is forced to “grind” – play the game over and over again, frequently without any enjoyment. This is a way to get better tanks/planes/guns/etc. It’s difficult to get off this cycle, which is why such games are called addictive.
