Pens, highlighters, liquid paper, or any other writing utensils are not allowed, not even for the essay (if you’re taking the SAT with Essay). Check your erasers to make sure they work well.

Are highlighters allowed on ACT?

Since the ACT is a paper test, you obviously need something to write with! Mechanical pencils, pens, highlighters, liquid paper, and any other writing utensil will not be accepted, not even for the Writing (essay) section.

According to College Board (the SAT folks), you can bring a watch, but it cannot have an audible alarm or make any “beeping” noises. Can you drink water during the act?

You are not allowed to eat in the test room, but you can eat outside of it during the breaks. Take your own bottle of water in case the test center does not have drinking fountains.

Why is the ACT overrated?

The ACT was developed as an alternative to the SAT, but is just a different test, not a better one. Like the SAT, the ACT has long-standing problems of bias, inaccuracy, coachability, and misuse. Because of these flaws, no test – neither the ACT nor SAT – should be required in the college admissions process.

Can you bring paper into SAT?

After you arrive at the test center, take out what you need and stow the rest of the stuff in a backpack under your seat. You’re not allowed to bring a phone, camera, computer, or tablet to the testing room. Nor can you bring scrap paper, books, and other school supplies (rulers, compasses, highlighters, and so on).
