Is it OK to store your gun in a leather holster?
Unless the leather is well cared for and regularly oiled, the answer would be no. Dry leather absorbs moisture right out of the air in humid environments and storing your weapon in such a holster will cause rust to form in the areas where the leather comes into contact with the weapon.
How are you supposed to store your gun?
Store your gun safely and securely to prevent unauthorized use. Use a California-approved firearms safety device on the gun, such as a trigger lock or cable lock, so it cannot be fired. Store it unloaded in a locked container, such as a California-approved lock box or a gun safe.
Should you oil a gun holster?
We do NOT recommend using a lubricant like spray silicone or Leather Lightning to grease up the inside of your holster. You don’t want a gun slippery as it may slide out of the holster unintentionally. Beyond that, you don’t want to tarnish the finish of your firearm.
Are leather holsters any good?
There is a reason for that, leather is a very solid choice when it comes to gun holsters. Leather holsters perfectly walk the line between durability and comfort. A well made leather sheath is strong enough to protect your gun for decades and yet still soft enough to wear it down your pants with a smile.
Are soft holsters safe?
Not unsafe, but you will not be able to reholster as fast. If you use a soft holster, you should holster your firearm “BEFORE” placing the holster IWB. (If you have to draw your firearm for any reason, remove the holster and place the firearm inside before re-positioning the whole rig.)
